How it Works

Welcome! Your space to shift the creative materials and supplies you don’t need, grab what you do, and connect with other makers.

Destasher is a fully legit platform (secure payments via Stripe, all the legal bits in place). We’ve got big ambitions… but we’re starting simple, with a functional site. Just see what you think. We currently welcome members based in the UK only.

Here’s how you can make the most of our platform:

1. Join the community

  • Sign up in just a few clicks!
  • Create your profile and share a bit about your crafting interests.
  • To complete transactions on the site, you’ll be asked to go through a Stripe verification. This is to satisfy regulatory requirements and confirm the identity of our account holders.

2. List your leftovers

  • Got leftover textiles, yarn, or other supplies you won’t use? Give them a second life!
  • Set your preferred way to rehome it — whether selling or giving away.
  • Write a short description and fill out the info on your item.
  • Snap clear photos. If you’re looking to shift a piece of fabric, do include an image of it laid out in full, to show any imperfections or unusual trims.
  • Indicate whether you are happy for the item to be picked up from your home or shipped, or if both options are possible for more flexibility.

3. Discover materials you need

  • Looking for that perfect preloved piece of fabric or haberdashery? Browse the listings, use the custom search tools, and find what you’re looking for.

4. Connect & exchange

Destasher helps you give or grab, sell or buy leftover materials and supplies.

Giving/grabbing

  • For items going for free, members can message each other directly to arrange shipping or pick up.

Selling/buying

Buyers:

  • Purchase an item and pay through the marketplace.
  • Liaise regarding pick up or wait for the seller to ship and mark the order as delivered/sent within 7 days.
  • Confirm you’ve received the item on your order page. You’ll get a reminder to do this on the 12th day after your order was sent.
  • If you don’t confirm that you have received your item within 14 days, the system will do it automatically.

Sellers:

  • Get notified of a new purchase.
  • Liaise regarding pick up or ship the item within 7 days, then mark the order as delivered/sent in your transaction page. Do keep proof (e.g., receipt from the post office).
  • Wait for the buyer to confirm receipt. If the buyer doesn’t confirm within 14 days, the system will do it automatically.
  • Once confirmed, payment is released to you.

Both sides can leave reviews after the transaction is completed.

5. Shipping/pick up

For items going for free, members can message each other directly to arrange shipping or pick up.

When listing an item to SELL on Destasher, you can choose to either ship it to the buyer or have them collect it from your home, by specifying the area in which you live or even your street name. You can also offer both options - shipping AND pick up - to give them more flexibility.

We have bold ideas on how to make shipping easy and streamlined. But this early platform currently does not offer third-party shipping.

If you have an item to sell, you'll be asked to add the cost for you to ship. An in-depth Shipping Guide is available on our platform.

6. Fees

Destasher is just starting so we’re keeping our fees low:

  • Using our platform is free for sellers, givers, and those grabbing something free.
  • During these early months, we charge buyers just a 3% transaction fee to cover processing costs — much lower than typical marketplaces charging between 5% and 15%.
  • As Destasher grows, we’ll always be transparent about fee changes so everyone knows what they’re paying and why.

7. Disputes

Destasher aims to nurture a community of like-minded makers based on our core values: connection, inspiration, affordability, and sustainability. We want our users to be genuine, honest, and supportive of one another. Full details of our processes in case of disputes will be laid out in our platform’s Terms & Conditions.
